Our event 'Nordic Climate Dialogues' calls for climate action

Join the discussion at Nordic Climate Dialogues 2025 on 1 October, NDF's first-ever event for Nordic experts in the nexus of climate and development finance. The event will unpack bold climate solutions and explore how the Nordic region can come together and catalyse finance for real action.
On 1 October 2025, we will host the event ‘Nordic Climate Dialogues’ at Hanaholmen Cultural Centre in Helsinki, Finland—a climate finance-focused event for Nordic experts at the intersection of climate and development finance. The topic of the event is 'Catalysing finance for climate action'.
“Although we have witnessed progress in climate financing over the past few years, with adaptation financing more than doubling between 2018 and 2022, we are still falling short of what is needed. The ‘climate finance gap’– the difference between the trillions of dollars needed and the amounts currently available – remains persistent,” says Satu Santala, NDF Managing Director. “To bridge the gap, public funding is dependent on new capital coming from the private sector. With the event, we aim to explore ways to mobilise financing at speed and scale.”
A growing interest for a Nordic meeting arena
Finance is not just about numbers. It is a critical enabler of climate action and sustainable development.
Adequate financial resources enable us to build and scale climate action, protect vulnerable communities from climate-related impacts such as floods, droughts, and rising sea levels, and support developing countries in achieving their climate and development objectives.
By convening government representatives, financiers, institutions, strategic partners, think tanks, research institutions, and NGOs, the event’s purpose is also to build a collaborative network of professionals in the region and inspire climate action.
“We have noticed a growing interest among the Nordic countries in building stronger professional relationships across the region. As a Nordic leader in climate action, we wanted to create a platform to make this possible. I am confident that, rooted in the region's shared values, strengths, and expertise in sustainability and green innovation, we can drive global impact, and show leadership in a challenging international environment.” Santala highlights.
Satu Santala, NDF's Managing Director, says she has witnessed a growing interest among the Nordic countries in building stronger professional relationships across the region.
A private event with a virtual open session
The full-day event will be for invited guests only. However, virtual participation will be available for the first session, starting at 10:00 (GMT+3). The high-level segment will focus on mobilising high-quality climate finance. It will include welcome remarks, a conversation on climate and development and Nordic countries’ role in a changing international environment, the state of global climate, and a panel discussion on Nordic cooperation as a global force for climate action.
“We will be talking about finance and development, more precisely, how the Nordic region can catalyse more high-quality climate finance for climate action, benefiting the most vulnerable people, communities, and our planet. Together, we can propose bold ideas that can drive transformative change. We wish you a very warm welcome to join the dialogue!” Santala says.
Nordic Climate Dialogues is organised in collaboration with our partners Hanaholmen - the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre, Ministry for Foreign Affairs Finland, and Convergence.
