Pasi Hellman appointed new Managing Director of the Nordic Development Fund

The Board of Directors of the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) has appointed Mr. Pasi Hellman Managing Director of the Fund. Mr. Hellman, who is a Finnish national, will take up his position on 1 November 2012. He succeeds Mr. Helge Semb who has been NDF’s Managing Director since November 2006.
 
Mr. Hellman has over 20 years of professional involvement in international matters. His past experience is particularly related to global and development issues. Since 2008, Mr. Hellman has been Deputy Director General of the Department for Development Policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Prior to his current position, he served at Finland's embassies in the Hague and Nairobi, as well as at various departments in the Ministry. Mr. Hellman has held several board positions in international organisations. He is currently member of the board of the UN University - World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER). He served at the Board of Directors at the Asian Development Bank, stationed in Manila between 2004 and 2007. He has been appointed representative for Finland to the Boards of Governors of several international financial institutions. In addition, he has acted as Finland's chief negotiator in the replenishment processes of the International Development Association (IDA), the African Development Fund and the Asian Development Fund. Between 2002 and 2004, he was a member of the Board of Directors of NDF. Mr. Hellman holds a PhD from the Turku School of Economics in Finland. He has published articles in international and Finnish publications on topics including international business, globalization and development, development finance and cooperation, multilateral development banks, and emerging markets.

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) is the joint development finance institution of the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – and provides financing for climate change and development interventions in low-income countries. NDF finances projects in cooperation with other development institutions.
