Bruno Duréault Suomalainen has been appointed to fill in a new strategic director role at NDF as Chief Financial Officer.

Bruno joins NDF with over 20 years of senior finance leadership experience spanning the private sector and international non-profit organisations. He joins NDF from Finn Church Aid, where he served as Director of Finance & Operations Support, overseeing a diverse team of global finance operations as well as risk and compliance, ICT, and logistics functions. Now, he will be heading the Advisory & Institutional Solutions Department at NDF.

“I’m looking forward to leading a multidisciplinary team at NDF. The team is made of experts with excellent reputation and high professional standards, who are already engaged with the vision and the purpose of the organisation. I have learnt to listen and to support, build trust, and I’m looking forward to working on this joint vision and deliver,” says Bruno Duréault Suomalainen.

Alongside his background in the NGO sector in Finland and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bruno has held senior finance positions in the Nordic environment, specifically in SaaS, engineering consultancy, and previous roles in management and leadership positions at Sievo, AFRY, and Nissan Nordic Europe. With long-standing experience in Finland, Bruno is excited to take a deep dive in the operations of the Nordics and their role in climate finance through NDF’s activities.

“NDF has a critical role in advancing climate and development finance to provide much needed concessional financing, allowing more traditional financiers to de-risk their positions. Nordic values, such as gender equality and transparency, are an essential stepping stone to deliver global climate goals. Without these values, impactful climate adaptation and mitigation projects would not be as sustainable and forward-looking, leaving many people behind.”

Bruno holds a Master of Business Management from Grenoble Management School. He is based in Helsinki and holds dual French–Finnish nationality.

“I have followed the work of NDF for several years and have always been very impressed by its impact and professionalism. I am delighted to join the team and contribute to NDF’s mission”, says Bruno.
