22.05.2014

The signing of the agreement took place in connection with the AfDB Annual Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda on 22 May 2014.

Mr. Aly Abou-Sabaa, Vice-President in the African Development Bank and Mr. Pasi Hellman, Managing Director of the Nordic Development Fund, signed an agreement on NDF support to the ClimDev Special Fund hosted by AfDB.

The ClimDev Special Fund aims at mainstreaming climate change information into climate resilient development programmes in African countries.  NDF’s contribution of EUR 5 million will contribute to the activities of the fund, which are based on demand from the countries, in the areas of  1) generation, wide dissemination and use of high quality climate information; 2) enhancing the capacity of policy makers and policy support institutions; and 3) implementation of pilot practices that demonstrate the value of mainstreaming climate information in development planning and practices.

NDF and AfDB are currently also discussing a number of other potential co-financing activities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in low-income African countries.
