NDF-funded facility in Africa receives award
The Africa Water Facility has received the award “Project Preparation Facility of the Year” by Africa investor
The African Water Facility (AWF) was recognised as the “Project Preparation Facility of the Year” at the Africa investor (Ai) CEO Infrastructure Developers and Investment Summit 2015, held 2 June in Cape Town, South Africa. AWF was one of ten organisations nominated for the award.
NDF has been a partner to AWF since 2014 when the two launched a joint call for proposals with the theme Preparation of Water and Climate Change Management and Investment Projects/Programmes. The purpose of the call is to prepare bankable water and climate change investment projects around Africa.
“The award is a great recognition of AWF’s work. It is encouraging to see project preparation activities highlighted as this was one of the areas we targeted with NDF support.” says Emeli Möller, Country Program Manager at NDF.
Since its launch in 2006, AWF has been mobilising resources to finance water resource development activities in Africa. Project preparation is one of three core areas of intervention; water governance and water knowledge being the other two. According to its Annual Report from 2014, out of 21 completed prepared projects, each euro invested mobilised an additional 35 euros. This is well-aligned with NDF’s strategy to support preparation of projects that can catalyse further financing from both public and private sectors.
