NDF collaboration with Global Environment Facility discussed in Helsinki

20.02.2018

On 16 February 2018, NDF Managing Director, Pasi Hellman, had the opportunity to meet with Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), to discuss current and future collaboration between the two organisations.

During the meeting, it was noted that both organisations share similar strategic principles, based on the financing of innovative climate projects. This alignment of interests is demonstrated by an impressive list of 11 co-financed projects in various sectors and geographical regions in developing countries. Two examples of recently co-financed projects are the Climate Resilience and Adaptation Finance and Technology Transfer Facility (CRAFT) and the Facility for Energy Inclusion Off-Grid Energy Access Fund (FEI OGEF).

NDF and GEF will continue developing their partnership and aim for a higher level of collaboration relating to the financing of innovative climate projects in developing countries.

The meeting was hosted by Hanna-Leena Lampi and Johanna Pietikäinen, Unit for Sustainable Development and International Climate Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, and it was also attended by Jaakko Kangasniemi, CEO at Finnfund, Roland Sundström, Senior Policy Officer at GEF, and Isabel Leroux, Program Manager at NDF.
