Green Climate Fund Executive Director visits NDF
NDF, together with Nefco and NIB, met this week with Green Climate Fund Executive Director Glemarec to discuss climate finance related issues
Yannick Glemarec met with Karin Isaksson, Managing Director of NDF, Trond Moe, Managing Director of Nefco, and André Küüsvek, President and CEO of NIB, to discuss green finance and the importance of accelerating climate innovations and investments, as well as to explore collaboration opportunities.
Since 2010, when the Green Climate Fund (GCF) was established as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) financial mechanism, NDF has closely followed the Fund’s development. NDF has regularly met with GCF representatives and is officially registered as an international observer to the GCF Board.
While NDF is not an accredited entity of GCF, it supports the GCF mandate and work through many different activities, from early-stage capacity building, establishing pipelines, over development of full-fledged proposals to direct co-financing with GCF.
Examples of NDF activities supporting the GCF is found in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Together with the Inter-American Development Bank, NDF has co-financed the development of full proposals for GCF in Bolivia, El Salvador, and Honduras in addition to a proposal for a regional Latin America initiative on a Green Innovation Hub. In Africa, NDF is financing the development of full GCF proposals in Mozambique and Zambia. Moreover, GCF and NDF are co-financing partners in the Climate Investor One (CIO) financing facility that delivers renewable energy projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
