Geothermal Donor Collaboration Meeting in Reykjavik, Island

28.05.2014

NDF participated on 26 May 2014 at the Geothermal Donor Collaboration Meeting in Reykjavik, Island. The meeting was hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Icelandic Development Agency (ICEIDA).

The meeting gathered representatives from appropriate ministries within the East Africa Rift Valley countries, the donor community and private power producer to discuss geothermal development in Africa.  The main messages from the meeting were that there is an urgent need for geothermal capacity building in the Africa region and donor coordination needs to be addressed properly at both national and regional level to avoid duplication and ensure harmonisation. The meeting was followed by a two day workshop for geothermal development donors.

NDF is together with ICEIDA financing the Geothermal Exploration Project, which aims to assist countries in East Africa to enhance geothermal knowledge and capacity in order to enable further geothermal utilisation in the respective countries.
