Climate Resilient Transport in Mozambique

28.08.2018

NDF hosted a discussion on climate change and transport between representatives from the National Road Administration (ANE) in Mozambique and consultants from Finnish Overseas Consultants (FINNOC).

NDF arranged half-day seminar on 28 August 2018 where ANE and FINNOC presented progress under the NDF-funded project: “Developing Capacity for a Climate Resilient Road Sector.” The project is a three-year initiative to help catapult Mozambique’s road infrastructure sector into a much more sustainable future. The presentations focused on climate risk and vulnerability mapping, capacity development, and climate-proofing of the Nacala Road Corridor. NDF presented our climate financing priorities and the specific support to climate and transport in countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The NDF support forms part of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Nacala Road Corridor project Phase III. The overall objective of the Nacala Road Corridor project is to develop an East-West road transport link between Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique to increase national and regional connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development. The objective of the NDF component is to provide the National Road Administration (ANE) and other stakeholders with capacity and tools to manage climate impact threats to road development including planning, design, construction and maintenance.

FINNOC provides consultancy services to the project under a long-term technical assistance contract. The visit forms part of an overseas study tour to Finland and Sweden to share experiences in addressing climate change issues in the Road and Transport Sector. The study tour includes visits to public institutions, organisations and private businesses that works with climate change issues in the road transport sector.
