AGF, ITC and NDF Continue their Promotion of Green Finance in Kenya

16.06.2017

The African Guarantee Fund (AGF), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) are organising a Green Finance Conference on 21 June in Nairobi, Kenya.

AGF and ITC, with funding from NDF, have partnered to expand access to climate-focused finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Africa.

A joint press release related to the event is available HERE.

NDF supports the event through a capacity development grant provided to AGF as part of an overall financing package comprising equity investment and grant and completed in April 2016. The NDF investment triggered the establishment and launch of a green guarantee product administered by AGF.

NDF Managing Director Mr. Pasi Hellman will join AGF CEO Mr. Felix Bikpo and Mr. Anders Aeroe, Director at ITC in opening the conference. Speaking prior to the event, Mr. Hellman said, “we are delighted to see this engagement with financial institutions take shape. This is a direct outcome of NDF engagement with AGF and a key step in building the knowledge base for green growth innovation and climate resilient economies in Africa.”

The event builds on work by all three organizing institutions to expand access to finance for green growth-focused small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. The first green finance conference was organized in Lusaka, Zambia in March 2017. Follow up conferences are planned for Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana over the coming months.

Participation at the event is expected from representatives from financial institutions including commercial and SME banks and microfinance institutions as well as policy makers from government, representatives from development finance and donor institutions and other key stakeholders engaged in sustainable development and innovating finance for transformation to a green and inclusive economy and a sustainable future.
